About a year ago, Crystal Lin was visiting Ocean Isle when she witnessed something magical. An unbelievably large sea turtle had come out of the ocean to lay its eggs. Two months later she returned with hopes of watching the eggs hatched.
Crystal had arrived just in time to see the small turtles scurry off into the ocean. She described this moment as 'majestic'.
From there, Crystal was inspired to recreate the tiny turtle shells into beautiful pieces of art. She is currently making rings, necklaces and earrings with her signature turtle shell design. I was fortunate enough to watch part of her process of making them.
Crystal graduated from East Carolina University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts concentrating in metals design. During her time at ECU she embraced the opportunity of studying abroad in Italy. There she did an independent study working on a variety of art work. She enjoys making medieval themed pieces which lead us to bond over the over sized chickens served for dinner at Medieval Times in Myrtle Beach. She also loves using the design of a turtle shell and turning old keys into different forms of jewelry.
Crystal was born in New Jersey and moved to North Carolina when she was 12 years old. She is now 26 years old and currently works at Pullen Art Center in Raleigh where she is able to practice her art. Outside of Pullen Park, Crystal spends her time working a second job at Jared and playing World of Warcraft with her friends.
